Roof Rejuvenationin Martinsburg, WV
One treatment that puts the lost oils back into aging asphalt shingles for 60 to 80 percent less than a full roof replacement. Most homeowners save $15,000 to $30,000 and add 5 to 15 years of roof life. We restore the roof you already own. We never sell you one you do not need.
Your roof is probably not worn out. It is dried out.
Asphalt shingles fail because they lose the oils that keep them flexible and sealed. Once those oils are gone the shingle stiffens, curls, drops granules and lets water in. A replacement contractor looks at that and quotes you twenty thousand dollars. We look at it and ask a better question first. Can this roof be restored instead.
Shingle Shield LLC brings roof rejuvenation to Martinsburg, WV and Berkeley County, from Spring Mills and the I-81 corridor to downtown and the rest of the Eastern Panhandle. One bio based treatment, applied to the shingles you already have, at a fraction of what a replacement costs.
Owner Ricky Thompson personally oversees every project. He started this company after watching too many neighbors get pushed into a replacement they did not need. Every assessment is honest. If your roof truly is finished, we will tell you that too, and we will not charge you to hear it.
Restore, then keep the difference.
- Free assessment before you spend a dollar
- Written quote before anyone climbs a ladder
- You talk to a rejuvenation specialist, never a call center
Roof rejuvenation. That is the whole business.
There is no upsell waiting behind it. We come look at the roof, we tell you whether the treatment will work on it, and when it will not we say so.
What is actually going wrong up there
An asphalt shingle is a fiberglass mat saturated with asphalt, and that asphalt is held together by a family of oils called maltenes. Maltenes are what make a shingle flexible. They let it expand in July heat, contract on a January night, shed water and stay sealed to the shingle beside it.
Maltenes evaporate. Ultraviolet light cooks them out of the surface, and every freeze and thaw cycle in the Eastern Panhandle pulls a little more. Nothing replaces them, so the ratio inside the shingle shifts year after year toward the hard, brittle asphaltenes that are left behind.
Once the maltenes drop below a certain level, the shingle stops behaving like a shingle. It stiffens. The corners curl and cup. Hairline cracks open across the face. The granule layer loosens and starts washing off in sheets after a storm. The seal strip lets go and wind gets underneath. All of that is a chemistry problem, and none of it means the roof deck under it has failed.
What the treatment does about it
Our treatment is a bio based rejuvenating agent, made from a renewable soy source rather than a petroleum solvent. It is sprayed onto the shingle surface with calibrated equipment so every plane gets an even, measured dose.
It does not sit on top like a paint or a film. It soaks down into the shingle mat and puts maltenes back where the sun took them out. As it penetrates, the asphalt softens back toward the flexibility it had when it was new, micro cracks close up, and loose granules bond down into the surface again instead of ending up on the driveway.
That is the whole difference between this and every other product sold for an aging roof. It reverses the chemistry that is causing the failure rather than covering the symptom with a layer of something else. On a genuine candidate it buys back 5 to 15 years of roof life, and it costs 60 to 80 percent less than tearing the roof off and starting over.
Right for your roof when
- The roof is roughly 8 to 20 years old
- Shingles are intact and lying flat on the deck
- You see fading, drying and curling rather than damage
- Granule loss is moderate, not down to the mat
- Asphalt shingles, architectural or three tab
- You would rather spend once than spend twenty thousand
Not right for your roof when
- Shingles are missing across whole sections
- The decking underneath is soft, spongy or sagging
- The fiberglass mat is exposed and breaking apart
- Water has been getting into the structure for years
- The roof is past 25 years and failing on every plane
- The roof is metal, tile, slate or flat membrane
Not sure which column your roof is in. That is exactly what the free assessment answers. Read the full breakdown of the treatment.
A restoration company, not a replacement company.
That distinction changes every conversation we have. Nobody here earns more by telling you the roof has to come off. We get paid to make the one you already own last longer.
Honest assessments
We take the time to explain what we found, what it means and what your realistic options are. Then you decide, on your own timeline.

Guaranteed in writing
Materials and workmanship are guaranteed, with the term stated plainly on your quote before you agree to anything.
Complete cleanup

Three steps from first look to finished roof.
Most treatments wrap inside a day or two, and you never need to be home for the work itself.
Free roof assessment
We come look at the roof, document the shingle condition with photos and give you a straight answer on whether rejuvenation will work. Free, and no pressure attached to it either way.
Surface preparation
The treatment has to reach bare shingle to do anything, so the surface is prepared and allowed to dry first. Landscaping, furniture and walkways stay covered the whole time.
Treatment application
The bio based formula goes on with calibrated equipment for even coverage and deep penetration, plane by plane, and the finished result is documented for your records.
What comes with the work, every time.
No fine print games and nothing you have to ask for. This is the standard on every Shingle Shield project.
Assessment before you spend anything
We come out, look at the roof and tell you what we found. There is no charge for that visit and no obligation attached to it.
Quote turnaround, usually

What Martinsburg homeowners ask us first.
-
What is roof rejuvenation, in plain English?
It is a bio based treatment sprayed onto aging asphalt shingles. It soaks into the shingle and puts back the maltene oils that sun and freeze thaw cycles have cooked out over the years. The shingle gets its flexibility back, micro cracks reseal and loose granules bond down again. See the full explanation.
-
How much can I save compared to a roof replacement?
Rejuvenation costs 60 to 80 percent less than a full replacement while adding life to the roof you already own. Most homeowners save $15,000 to $30,000 by treating instead of replacing early.
-
How do I know if my roof is a good candidate?
Roofs roughly 8 to 20 years old with intact shingles that are drying out, fading or beginning to curl are the best candidates. Roofs with missing sections, soft decking or an exposed mat are not. The free assessment settles it, and we tell you honestly if rejuvenation is not right for your roof.
-
How many years does the treatment add?
On a genuine candidate the treatment adds 5 to 15 years of roof life. The range depends on the age and condition of the shingles when we treat them, along with sun exposure and how sheltered the roof is.
-
Is rejuvenation safe for all types of shingles?
The treatment is formulated for asphalt shingles, both architectural and three tab. It is not used on metal, tile, slate or flat membrane roofs. We look at every roof individually before quoting it. More on the treatment.
-
Will rejuvenation void my existing warranty?
Most manufacturer warranties have already run out on roofs that are candidates for rejuvenation. We document all work performed so you have a record of exactly what was applied and when.
-
How long does it take, and do I need to be home?
Most roofs are prepared and treated inside one to two days. You do not need to be home for the work itself. The treatment needs dry conditions to penetrate properly, so we schedule around rain rather than push through it.
-
What happens if my roof is too far gone?
We tell you, we show you the photos that led us there and we do not charge you for the assessment. Selling a treatment to a roof it cannot help is the fastest way to lose a neighborhood, and this is where Ricky lives. Read the full FAQ.
